Disadvantages Of Using Craigslist.org To Make Money

There are disadvantages to using craigslist.org to make money. Although it can be done, and the chance of actually losing money is limited, craigslist.org only reaches a small percentage of customers. This is fine if what you are doing is limited to your location, however if you are selling products, this is a very limited area to do so.

The first disadvantage of using craigslist.org to make money is reach. Although millions of people visit this website, all of those visitors are distributed among 450 locations. This is where craigslist.org is lacking. You are not supposed to post your ad in more than one location at a time. If you are selling widgets, and you want to sell a lot of widgets to everyone, everywhere, then craigslist.org will be very limiting to you.

Another disadvantage of using craigslist.org to make money is that there is no protection for the seller. Many auction sites have procedures in place to make sure that both the buyer and seller are protected from unscrupulous individuals. Craigslist.org has no such protections. You make contact with a potential buyer or seller and hope that they will not rip you off. You do not know if they are legitimate or not and you have no idea if they are a dangerous criminal or not. Online auction sites remove the person interaction by means of shipping the item to a location. On craigslist.org you usually have to either have a buyer come to your home, go to a seller's location or meet in a public place somewhere. Meeting someone is fine if the item is small. However if you are selling a projection TV, it may be more difficult to get it to the local diner.

Craigslist.org does post a notice explaining how to keep safe from fraud. Their intentions are well meant and in this case you get what you pay for. Craigslist.org is free. Most auction sites have fees. In this case it seems that you are paying for an additional level of safety and security. On an auction website there is recourse if someone passes you a bad check or if someone offers to pay you via PayPal and then reverses the payment. With cragislist.org there is recourse only through law enforcement for a bad check or through PayPal. Your chances of recovering payment is not good. You will be out the money and the product.

Another problem with craigslist.org is if you are trying to promote your business. There are many businesses that will keep reporting your ad as being in violation of craigslists.org's rules and regulations or that it is spam or even that it infringes on some else's copyright. In certain categories it can be nearly impossible for a new business to post an ad. For example, posting an ad for carpet cleaning services in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area can be next to impossible. I know of one particular company that finally had to contact Craig Newmark directly in order to get a problem resolved.

Now that you know all about the disadvantages of using craigslist.org to make money you can decide for yourself if it is worth it. Although the ad is free it takes a lot of time to write, post and constantly delete and repost your ad so that it stays on the front page. Is it worth it? Only you can decide for yourself.

Save Money when you Purchase items Online

These days the concept of online shopping is something most of us with computers are used to. Not only does it offer you the convenience of shopping from the comfort of your home, you can do it at any hour of the day. If you take the time to compare the prices of what you find in the retail stores or catalogs to what you find online, you can generally find the product for less including shipping.

The downside to this is that you don't get the instant gratification of taking the item with you the moment you purchase it. Yet for the amount of money you can save when you shop online it is worth waiting for a few days until it arrives at your doorstep. You will also save money in another way if you take the time to read the various reviews about the products you want to purchase. These reviews are written from actual consumers who have used the product. It is definitely worth checking into the quality of a product from the consumer's point of view rather than just focusing on the advertising you see for that product.

If you have a fast internet connection, it really doesn't take too long to visit various sites that sell the item you are interested in. It is a good idea to keep paper and pens close to your computer. You can easily compose a chart listing the name of the site, the cost of the product, the cost of shipping, warranty/return information, and the length of time it will take for you to receive the item. This way you can quickly look back over the information you have and make a selection that will save you the most money.

There are even some websites that allow you to compare the same item by several different retailers, so most of the footwork is taken care of for you. Look for sales and promotions that may be sent to you by e-mail for a particular product or website. If you frequently make purchases from the same websites it is worth it to sign up for their newsletters and promotions.

You want to make sure any online site you are considering making a purchase from is secure. This will help prevent your information from being accessed by hackers or other individuals. With the issue of identity theft being on the rise it is good to take every precaution. It is very simple to find out if a site is secure or not. The address that shows up in your browser for any given webpage will start with http. If there is an “s” after that then the site is secure. If the “s” is missing then you do not want to make your purchase from that site. It is just too risky.

When you get to the checkout portion of the website pay close attention for any boxes that offer you the chance to enter a promotion code. Having this code could help you get a discount on your purchase and save you even more money. Many websites have a promotion code that offers free shipping. You can get the promotion code from exploring the internet or you can contact the site by phone or e-mail. Tell them you are willing to make a purchase if they will share the promotion information with you. Trust me, they aren't going tell you no!

You are likely to find thousands of sites online that offer the item you want, so take the time to find the right product offered by a reputable website that is secure. Since there is so much competition out there you will find buyers have the upper hand. You can likely find what you want for less than retailers offer it even with the cost of shipping it to you. This is because they have to compete with so many other sites and because they don't have the same overhead expenses as brick and mortar retailers.

Make Money Writing Articles: How to Avoid Scams

If you want to make money writing articles online, there is a good chance that you will turn to the internet in search of paying clients. Unfortunately, you are likely to come across a number of scams along the way. Writing articles for money is a great work-at-home opportunity, but, work-at-home opportunities are often common fronts for scammers. So, how can you avoid these scams? You may be surprised just how easy it is.

First, it is important to know what types of scams are out there. You may find what appears to be a great client who wants you to write 15 articles on fashion jewelry. However, after submitting your articles, your client is nowhere to be found. They took your articles without paying for them. For a writer who takes great pride in their work, this is one of the worst types of scams to fall victim to. There are also scams where companies, claiming to provide you with article writing jobs charge you a fee and then just take your money and run. Some scammers will also create fake article writing jobs in hopes of getting your personal information.

As for acquiring your personal information and using it illegally, a legitimate business owner may need your social security number, as they need to report this information on their taxes. Unfortunately, this is how many scammers get personal information out of hopeful writers. To prevent this from happening from you, know the difference between a well-established website and company versus someone who is only asking you to write four articles. Work with a new client a few times before providing them with any personal information. If you are paid and without problems, the individual or company in question really may need your personal information.

As for someone taking your articles and running, without paying you, there are a number of ways to avoid this scam. Be cautious of new clients. For projects that are large in size, request a small amount of the payment upfront or at the halfway point. If you aren't paid, don't write more articles. For smaller projects, where you may feel uncomfortable asking for payment upfront, use you best judgment. If your articles are not paid for, you retain the rights to them, meaning you can resell them.

As for “companies,” who request you pay a fee, you will also want to use your best judgment. There are legitimate companies online that will charge you $5 or $10 a month to participate in their article writing programs. A small fee doesn't mean that the site is legitimate, but run away from fees that are high, like $20 or more. Also, never pay a company that claims you can make thousands of dollars a day. Article writing can be a well-paying gig, but since it is a legitimate job, so you should have reasonable expectations.

As previously stated, be sure to use your best judgment. Although some online scams can be easy to fall for, most are easy to spot and from a mile away. As long as you know that article writing scams do exist and what to look for, you can better protect yourself. By steering clear of the above mentioned scams, you can enjoy a long and profitable career as an article writer.

How to Make Money with Storage Unit Auctions

Are you looking for an easy way to make money? If so, you will want to examine storage unit auctions. Making money with mini storage auctions does require a small amount of start-up cash, but you stand a good chance of recouping that money back and then some.

If you are new to making money with storage auctions, you may be wondering how the process works. First, you need to find auctions. These auctions are usually advertised online or in a newspaper classified section. Depending on the size of your city or town, you may have a local auction once a month or more.

Unless otherwise stated, you will want to bring plenty of cash with you. Most storage companies will only accept it, not credit cards or checks. When carrying large amount of cash, take extra steps to keep it safe.

Inspect the items available for sale through bidding if you can. This may involve arriving ten or twenty minutes early. See if you can lookout around. Even if you cannot open up sealed bins or walk all the way into a storage bay, perform a quick inspection. You can sometimes gauge or estimate the value of items inside.

As for what you should look for, remember that you want to make a profit. Try to find storage bays where most items are visible from the outside. These are items that are out of or cannot fit into a box. Furniture is nice and easy to resell if you plan to do so locally.

You can place bids on sealed bins or storage units that are filled with them, but this can be risky. You never know what is inside. Look for moving boxes that are labeled with a company name or logo. This is a sign that household items may be inside. Household items, in most cases, are easy to sell for a small profit. On that same note, many boxes are used to pack away important documents and family photographs. These items are, essentially, worthless to you.

During the bidding process, remember your goal of making money. To make money, you must limit your business expenses. This means that you want to win a storage bay filled to capacity with valuable things, but you don't want to overpay for it. Never bid higher than you can reasonably afford.

If and when you win at a mini storage auction, you will need to remove the items from the premises. You should know ahead of time, but you may be required to have all items offsite within twenty-four hours. If you do not have access to a truck or van, bring a padlock with you. This can allow you to keep your purchases locked and safe when making multiple trips in a small car.

If you want to make money, but quickly, you will want to start reselling your items right away. For some the ability to quickly resell is very important. Are you limited on space in your own home? If so, you may not have room for all of your purchases. If you want to move these items out of your home and off your property fast or if you want to make a quick profit, host a yard sale. Yard sales are nice because they can be hosted at a moments notice and because everything is laid out for sale all at once.

If you are more focused on making the biggest profit, as opposed to selling off the items quickly, examine eBay.com or Craigslist.org. They are two popular websites online. Craiglist is not as popular as eBay, but it is increasing in popularity and it is free to post local advertisements. eBay is popular, but you are charged numerous fees. If you have time, you may want to try both. List half your items for sale on eBay and half on Craigslist. Which approach makes you the most money?

Make Money Writing Articles: Upfront or Passive Pay?

Have you recently decided that you want to make money writing articles from home? If you have, do you know that you have an unlimited number of choices? One of those choices is what type of payment you want to receive. Two of your main options include upfront payment or passive income.

Upfront payment is nice, as it pays the bills. To receive upfront payment you often acquire clients who need content. This content is either used for a website or for marketing purposes. Usually, the clients that freelance writers work with are either search engine optimization specialists or website owners. Since you write the articles and then hand them over, you are often paid right away.

Upfront payments are also nice in emergency situations. Do you need to make money fast to pay for car repairs? If you do, search for article writing projects that involve payment right away. On average, most paying clients pay their writers within two weeks, if not much sooner. You can find these projects by searching job posting boards, online classified advertisements, and online bidding websites. Just be cautious of scams, as they do exists. Article writing is a legitimate way to make money online, so don't expect to earn $1,000 in 24 hours, as it likely will not happen.

As great as receiving payment upfront for writing articles is, it also has its downsides. One being the competition. As more people are start looking for ways to save money on gas, be their own boss, or stay home with the kids, the competition for upfront paying projects increases. There are ways that you can overcome this. Polish your resume or portfolio so that you can stand apart from the rest. Apply for as many projects or jobs as possible, as this increases your chances of landing one.

When you have an individual or company who pays you upfront for your articles, they usually retain the rights. This means that you cannot reuse or resell the articles in question. You are also usually operating a ghostwriter, meaning that your name will not be attached to the content.

As for passive income, the greatest benefit of relying on it to make money through article writing is the number of options that you have. To get started, look for revenue sharing websites. You upload your article to the website in question. In exchange for having your content posted and making money through the use of advertisements, you are paid a page view bonus. This bonus will increase with the more articles you write, but it is generated overtime. So, you are essentially earning money for an article that you may have written six months ago.

In addition to third party revenue sharing websites, you can also write articles and post them on your website or blog. In terms of passive income, which keeps generating overtime, a website is best. Blog readers tend to expect new posts to read on a daily basis. To make money this way, you need to have advertisements on your website. There are affiliate programs you can signup for. You can post a small message outlining your site's advertising rates. In fact, you should try both approaches.

The only true downside to relying on passive income to make money with your articles is that you aren't paid right away. Most third party revenue sharing websites and affiliate programs require that you hit a specific dollar amount before you are paid. Although not always high, it may take a month or two before you start receiving payments.

Since writing articles for upfront payment and passive income both have their pros and cons, you may be wondering which approach is right for you. Why not give them both a try? If you are in need of money, focus on upfront paying projects, but set a small amount of time aside each week to start generating passive income.

How to Make Money Writing Magazine Articles

Are you looking to make money writing articles? If you are, many might assume that you want to write articles that can be viewed online. You may, however, have other ideas. One of those ideas may involve writing magazine articles.

If you are new to writing magazine articles, you may be looking for helpful tips. First, it is important to research before you write. This research can easily be done online, with a standard internet search, or by purchasing a copy of the Writer's Market books. These books outline paying publications, including magazines, and their expectations.

As for the importance of research, it can save you time and money. Magazines specialize in a number of different genres; determine what these genres are ahead of time. You need to find the magazines that would be the perfect fit for your article. Research can also increase your chances of getting published, as many publishing companies specifically outline what they are looking for and what they are not.

Once you have decided which magazines you would like to write an article for submission, buy copies of that magazine. At the very least, see if magazine articles are available on the company's website for viewing. It is not uncommon for a particular magazine to have a specific style of writing that it follows. Make sure your article is unique, but follows the same the writing style.

Another way to improve your chances of getting a magazine article published is to choose the topic of your article wisely. Write on a topic that you have a great interest in or one that you are passionate about. When a topic “tugs at your heart,” your article is likely to be more involved and of better quality. Also, write on a topic that you are educated on. Are you an individual with a teaching background? If so, use your background to write informative pieces on education, and so forth. Many professional publishing companies not only want quality articles, but articles that are backed with facts, figures, and knowledge.

Setting realistic goals for yourself is important. If you are new to freelance writing, don't expect to see your article accepted and published the first time around. Yes, you want to aim high, but do not let a rejection letter bring you down. Instead, use it to improve your article writing quality.

Another easy way to improve your chances of getting a magazine article published is to get published online first. Many publishing companies ask to see samples of your previous work, want a summary of your work experience, or ask for references. Having content published online, even if it is only on a personal website or blog, can help to make you appear as an “experienced,” writer. Namely, one that can bring something to the magazine. For the best success, target websites that are known as eZines, as they are online magazines.

When submitting an article for submission, it is important to follow all directions given you. As stated above, most publishing companies will tell you what they want or don't want. Can you submit the full article or are proposals requested? Should you double space or single space your article? Are samples of prior work published needed? Always submit articles for submission as they are requested. This alone significantly improves your chances of getting published.
